When I was thirteen years old, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. At the time cancer was relatively unknown in India and the doctor didn’t diagnose it until it was too late. I prayed may prayers to the gods that she would be healed but sadly she passed away. I was devastated and my faith was really shaken and I was left without hope.
I think the followers of Yeshu must have felt the same way when they saw him crucified. They thought that he was the one who would save them from the Romans.
Watch what happens to Mary as she approaches the tomb where Yeshu was buried.
Mary was a devotee of Yeshu who had followed him and listened to his teachings. She was devastated when he was crucified and died - just like I was when my mother died.
Mary expected that Yeshu was buried and distressed when she could not find his body. Imagine her shock and surprise when she encountered Yeshu alive and calling her by her name. In this moment, Mary’s life changed from despair to hope, from sadness to excitement and joy*!* She ran to her friends to share the good news that Yeshu was alive.
When I first read about the story of Yeshu my life also turned around. I experienced a new peace and joy that I had never known before in my life. God was no longer distant from me but a close friend who loved me. My new found faith was founded on the historical person of Yeshu and what he did for me on the cross as God’s son.
Thomas was a bhakt of Yeshu. He was not present when Yeshu showed himself to his other devotees. At first he was not convinced that Yeshu had come back to life. See what happens when Yeshu appears to Thomas and the change this brings.
According to this historical record, Yeshu came back to life from death in the same body so we know he was not reincarnated.
Thomas believed Yeshu when He appeared to him and Lord Yeshu’s words have stayed with me …
29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:29
I am so thankful to God for those words because I can see the Lord Yeshu working out things in my life and bringing me peace.
